About Peer Support
Peer support is a mental health service based on shared lived experience, where a peer supporter provides empathy, understanding, and confidentiality to the person seeking support. Peer support has long been an accepted and celebrated concept in many cultures and communities, through different expressions, such as talking circles, sweat lodges, and consumer/survivor groups. Peer support is person-focused, not illness-focused, meaning it is oriented towards encouraging an enhanced quality of life for an individual rather than diagnosing or treating a specific malady. Rooted in principles of mutual aid, peer support aims to reduce barriers to access to mental healthcare and power imbalances.
About My Approach
It is important to have a space to not only be heard, but to be believed and affirmed. Our sessions together are your space to share your experiences, your struggles, and your hopes. You are the expert in your experiences, and I am here to hear you and help you find your path to recovery that is authentic to you. As you change and grow, so will your needs, our sessions will always be a fluid space where I aim to make communicating your needs and boundaries as easy and safe as possible.
