There are approximately 50 thousand members of the LGBTQ community in Hamilton. Unfortunately Hamilton lacks LGBTQ identified safe community spaces, services and resources. The reasons for this are complex and inextricably tied to homophobia. Although not part of the scope of this research, these issues are addressed at various points throughout this report.

Through surveys, focus groups and key informant interviews, this community based research has helped to articulate some of the many needs of the LGBTQ community in Hamilton with recommendations as to how these could be addressed effectively.
